June brings a very busy month to Montgomery County CERT as we roll into a full schedule summer of activities. First, we are very pleased to welcome the new Division of Volunteer Services Chief Michael Kelley on board as he begins his tenure. Chief Kelley has told me he looks forward to meeting all you soon, and I know we will give him a warm CERT welcome! Everyone should be prepared and up to date with life-saving skills like CPR and AED usage. Montgomery County CERT offers free CPR/AED classes taught by ASHI professional instructors as a service to our team, our family and friends, and to our community. Like the CERT class, our public CPR /AED class is open to all residents of the county who are at least 18 years of age. Exceptions are made for people who work within Montgomery County boundaries. All training classes are sponsored by Montgomery CERT are at no cost to the participant other than the participant’s commitment and desire to learn. Register For the Next Friends & Family CPR Class! Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training Do you know how to assist your neighbors and co-workers in any emergency situation? Will you be able to help if Emergency Services are delayed? If your answer was not a resounding yes, then consider taking the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training course offered by Montgomery County. Montgomery County’s enhanced Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training course will prepare you for common emergencies situations and the hazards and disasters that may impact the DC Metro area. The course is five weeks long; approximately 32 hours of instruction and hands-on exercises. Register for the Next Class The Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) Course #2019-02 will start on Wednesday, July 10th, 2019, and wrap up with a final practical exercise, on Saturday, August 10th, 2019. Classes will be held twice a week, Wednesday Evenings from 7–9 PM and Saturday mornings from 9 AM–1 PM, at the Montgomery County Public Safety Headquarters (100 Edison Park Drive, Suite #100, Gaithersburg, MD 20878). May 2019 is the first ever Stop The Bleed Month, and at Montgomery CERT we are great supporters of learning hemorrhage control techniques.  We have offered several Stop The Bleed courses in the past and plan to offer more this year. Happy April to all! Congrats to our new slate of 2019/20 CERT officers elected on April 11 for a one-year term. Thank you to the other candidates and our election committee for all of their efforts.
